What this measures — read before quoting
The average is the official StatCan series — real shelf prices, published monthly. The deals are the best advertised prices Lowtein observed in store flyers this week — deal prices, not average shelf prices. The gap between them measures how good this week's deals are, not how prices are moving. Full method: how we check.
